Athens (Piraeus), Greece
SAT, APRIL 4 • 00:00 - 23:00

A city of legend, civilization, and enduring culture, Athens is a majestic and magical urban sprawl. Extraordinary elegance and grace combine with grit and graft in Greece's capital, where highways encase ruins from antiquity, and gleaming museums and galleries stand beside concrete sprayed with edgy street art. These contrasts enhance and elevate the wonders of this 2,500-year-old city, however, which counts extraordinary contributions to philosophy, drama, and democracy, among its global legacy. Piraeus's giant port and naval base welcome you to the edge of Athens' urban area. From there it's a simple jaunt to the center. The majestic ancient citadel of the Acropolis dominates an elevated platform and is a constant presence as you explore the city. The wonderful remains of the columned temple of the Parthenon - which date back to the 5th century BC - stand here, representing the pinnacle of classical architecture. The nearby Acropolis Museum adds context to your visit and frames the broad views from its giant glass windows. Or rise up Mount Lycabettus, to be rewarded with perhaps Athens' best panorama of the Acropolis sitting high over the city on its grand stage. See the marble horseshoe of the Old Olympic Stadium, where the first modern Olympics were held in 1896, for more of the city's enduring legacy. Elsewhere, golden beaches and temples stretch out along the coastline, should you wish to explore a little further afield. Coffee is an art form to the Greeks, and it's an unwritten rule that coffee time must never be rushed. So prepare to settle down for a couple of hours and lose yourself in a good chat. Feeling hungry - try traditional souvlaki made with sauces handed from generation to generation.

Days at sea are the perfect opportunity to relax, unwind, and catch up with what you've been meaning to do. Aghios Nikolaos, Crete, Greece
MON, APRIL 6 • 08:00 - 18:00

Set on the east of the Greek island Crete, Aghios Nikolaos is a place of legend and luxury. Pastel-colored houses jostle attractively around the pretty harbor and inky lake, while busy restaurants and cafes spill out onto its lively waterfront. Life here orbits around Lake Voulismeni, and the legendary lake is said to be bottomless and to have been a bathing spot for Greek goddesses Athena and Artemis. Enjoy heavenly views of the water through frames of pretty, violet flowers, or climb the stone steps for a sweeping panorama of the town, lake, and seas beyond. With abundant waterfront, hours meander past effortlessly in the town's humming cafes, as characters come and go, and sunlight flicks off the sparkling waves. Aghios Nikolaos is surrounded by wide, scenic beaches, and you can choose between Voulisma - where crystal-clear water lolls against fine sand, or Almyros - where a refreshing ribbon of cooling freshwater snakes out into warm turquoise seawater. Away from the beaches, look for the brightly frescoed Panagias Keras Church - one of the region's oldest Byzantine churches - which dates back to the 13th century. Explore local farms to taste fresh oil, crushed from plump olives, ripened by the generous Cretan sun.

Rhodes, Greece
TUE, APRIL 7 • 08:00 - 19:00

With an endless sun-soaked season, earthy history, and vibrant culture, the island of Rhodes has it all. At the crossroads between continents, and sandwiched between Crete and Turkey's coastline, Rhodes has swayed between many mighty civilizations throughout its tumultuous history. Part of the Dodecanese Islands, which are sprinkled across the blissfully blue Aegean Sea, dive into this island of dazzling beaches, historic medieval towns, and whitewashed villages. Crusted with turrets and walls, alluding to its strategic significance over the years. Incredible history has been left behind, and the cobbled streets of the UNESCO World Heritage site listed Old Town are some of Europe's best. Wander back through time, with occasional minarets from Ottoman-era mosques rising from the tangle of Medieval history, and the smells of cinnamon, cumin, and pepper lingering above stone-paved streets. Discover inviting outdoor restaurants, which spill across flower-filled courtyards, and enjoy fresh Greek cuisine with an Eastern influence. The preserved columns of Lindos's spectacular Ancient Greek Acropolis watch out over electric blue water, while the Gothic Medieval stronghold of the 14th-century Palace of the Grand Masters of the Knights of Rhodes, adds more fascinating history to explore. Fragrant, pine tree-coated hills, and gorgeous beaches of eye-watering blue water, offer your choice of unbridled relaxation or thrilling action, and you can raise the pulse with water sports, or shelter in coves with shocks of turquoise water and monolithic rock formations.

Kusadasi, Turkey
WED, APRIL 8 • 08:00 - 23:00

Explore the towering columns, and storied remains of Ephesus - one of the most spectacular cities left by the Ancient Greeks. Kusadasi welcomes you to the Turkish coastline and is your base for exploring these majestic remains, which sit just 10 miles inland from the port. The Ephesus UNESCO World Heritage Site is a true archaeological gold mine and an amazingly well-preserved site - once home to 150,000 people. The grand Temple of Artemis rose up majestically here and was recognized as one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World before its untimely destruction. The grand city was a fitting location for such a wonder, and with a mere 20% estimated to have been uncovered, the scale and majesty of Ephesus is hard to fully comprehend, as you walk the ancient streets. Visit the precious Library of Celsus - a gorgeous, double-layered facade of columns and artistry - and enjoy the city's gently illuminated, atmospheric venues - which still host stirring evening concerts. Ephesus's museum adds context to the 25,000 treasures that are exhibited within. After a long hot day exploring, recharge with a perfectly charred and seasoned kebab, or vegetable and rice stuffed grape leaves like dolma. In Kusadasi itself, you can discover a lively seaside city with a buzzing Aegean beach scene, and a glut of restaurants and cafes to kick back in.

Mykonos, Greece
THU, APRIL 9 • 08:00 - 18:30

Indulge in idyllic island life, as you take your fill of superb foods and wines, and soak in endless views of sweeping turquoise seascapes and pretty whitewash buildings. Known for its lively nightlife and rejuvenating, carefree outlook, Mykonos is a dazzlingly beautiful island escape. The secret is well and truly out, but nonetheless, Mykonos has managed to retain the enduring, exclusive allure that first drew celebrities like Brigitte Bardot to its star-studded shores. True to its roots, Mykonos is a rich land of culture, tradition, and swirling legend, and the island is said to be built on the frozen bodies of giants slain by Hercules and to have been the legendary battleground between Zeus and the Titans. Head out onto the crystalline waters to seek out serene islands, hit perfect beaches, or venture into the labyrinth of Mykonos Town. White facades, red roofs, and cobalt blue shutters add to this lively town's appeal. Explore narrow streets housing studios - where artisans piece together mosaics - and plenty of restaurants and bars offer sanctuary. Head to Little Venice for a waterfront view of one of the island's famed sunsets, and to enjoy an aperitif of the favorite aniseed liqueur, ouzo. Boasting numerous attractive sandy coves, a wealth of top-notch restaurants, and rich cultural appeal, it's little wonder that Mykonos is one of the most popular Greek Islands. Discover this jaw-droppingly scenic island paradise, watched over by its iconic huddles of picturesque windmills.

Nafplion, Greece
FRI, APRIL 10 • 08:00 - 18:30

Greece's first capital remains the escape of choice for Athenians, who weekend here to indulge in the town's gorgeous seaside setting. One of the country's most romantic towns, the warm color palette and tempting, island-sprinkled waters, pull on plenty of heartstrings. With perfect beaches, crystal clear waters for swimming, and evocative fortress-capped mountains, Nafplion is a sun-soaked Greek beauty. A gorgeous blend of Greek, Byzantine, Venetian, and Ottoman influences, stroll the seafront promenade and soak up the ambiance in tavernas and bars. Head into the warren of an old town, which is full of narrow streets, neoclassical architecture, and pink-flowered trees drooping over walls. Located on the hill that towers over Nafplion, Palamidi Fortress is a Venetian castle built in 1714, and its steep walls flow dramatically down the slope. If you're feeling brave, a slog of 857 steps will take you to the top to see beautiful views across Nafplion and the Argolic Gulf. Acronafplia fortress is Nafplion's oldest castle, and its walls enclosed the entire town until the 13th century. Just offshore, the Venetian Bourtzi fortress rises on a tiny islet, a short boat ride away across the glistening waters. Venetians built this harbor fortress to protect the town before it later housed the official executioner. Today its hardy walls shake to music, during its summer festival, and the castle enjoys a gorgeous view back over the waves to the town's humming waterfront. Ancient cities like Corinth lie close by, recovered and unearthed after being wiped from history by immense earthquakes.

The food of Crete has been called "the heart and soul of all Greek cooking." The food of the largest of the Greek isles stands dramatically apart from its neighbors. It benefits from access to both mountains and sea, the livestock grazing on fresh wild herbs and grasses, plus incredible seafood. In Crete, old traditions like open-fire cooking methods once prevalent around the country but now vanishingly rare elsewhere are kept alive. It's been said that the staples of the Cretan table - local olive oil, barley, broad beans and wild fennel, goat's cheeses and honey - would be familiar in the dining habits of their Minoan ancestors from 3000 BC. Set on a beautiful hillside, with stunning views of the mountainous area of Herasso, the remote and private organic farm Peskesi is the ideal place to explore and enjoy the unique landscape and cuisine of this most delicious Greek island and experience the pleasures of the Cretan table on this full-day immersive S.A.L.T. experience. Learn about sustainable farming practices, pick and taste some of the ancient varieties of products grown in the fields here, taste and appreciate a variety of local olive oils and wine and join together around the wood-fired hearth to learn to cook some staples of the Cretan diet. Peskesi Organic Active Farm Truly a special place cultivated with care and real passion for the land and dedicated to the revival, preservation and promotion of the wealth of the Cretan Diet and sharing the rich history and culture of the wild and beautiful island. In addition to olive groves and nearly forgotten varieties of produce including local nutrient-rich greens like papoules, the fragrant gardens are planted with zucchini, tomatoes, eggpalants, melons, wildflowers and many others. This special way of cultivation and breeding, based on the long-standing experience of traditional farming, enables them to produce healthy, seasonal products and top quality ingredients on a daily basis. There is a small open-air museum of ancient olive making vessels. At the center of the site and the experience is a huge and amazing stone fireplace under the shade of a pergola, where the bounty of the land is cooked slowly in old clay vessels on the embers of wood fires. Lamb antikristo (cooked for many hours in front of the flames) and stuffed zucchini blossoms and grape leaves are a few of the delicacies that come from this unforgettable hearth. A Complete Culinary Experience Depart the pier for approximately 1-hour drive to the farm. Upon arrival, be greeted by the owners who will then take you on a walk around the farm. Learn to recognize local varieties of vegetables and herbs that will be the basis of your dishes. Discover the high nutritional value of Cretan honey, and the way their ancestors produced excellent extra virgin olive oil. Together collect all the pure raw materials that will be used for cooking, discussing the value of the seasonal cultivation used on the farm. Following authentic traditional recipes and practices but also the expertise of the chef, you will be introduced step by step to Cretan cuisine and its secrets. Around a table, like each important moment in Cretan culture, enjoy today's culinary creation and the unique experience of Cretan hospitality. Your Host - Mr. Panagiotis Maganas Mr. Panagiotis Maganas, the owner of Peskesi Organic Farm started as a nutritionist in his own diet centers in Athens but his interest and love for the Cretan diet determined his next steps. Ancient Ephesus with Lunch
KUS-A

Embrace the ancient beauty, sites and treasures of Ephesus during a full-day tour of this spectacular old city. Home of the Virgin Mary Depart the pier for the drive out of Kusadasi, and towards Bulbul Mountain to see the house that some claim to be the last home of the Virgin Mary. The Virgin Mary is said to have come here in the company of St. John towards the end of her life, around 40 A.D. The site remained undiscovered and unvisited for 1,800 years until being described in visions by a German nun who had not previously seen nor visited the house. Each year, Christians and Muslims who honour 'Meryemana' as the mother of a great prophet make religious pilgrimages to the site. Beneath the house is a fountain where a sacred spring feeds three fonts, each bestowing a unique blessing upon visitors. From here, re-board your coach and continue on for the drive to Ephesus. Ephesus In ancient times, Ephesus hosted St. Paul, St. John and the Virgin Mary. Ephesus was an important Greek trading city of Ionia. Later, it became Rome's provincial capital and was home to one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The massive foundation of the Temple of Diana can still be seen here today after 3,000 years. In the 60s A.D., when the city supposedly had a population of nearly 150,000, St. Paul lived here for three years and wrote one of his most famous epistles, the Letter to the Ephesians. Celsus Library During your walking tour, see the exquisite Celsus Library. Built in 135 B.C. by a son in homage to his father, this magnificent library is lavishly decorated with facades, columns and sculptures. The library once housed 12,000 scrolls of papyrus manuscripts, making it one of the largest in the ancient world and second only to the library in Alexandria, Egypt. Greek Theatre and Temple of Hadrian Next, proceed to the spectacular Greek Theatre. Originally built in the 3rd century by the Greeks, the theatre was later expanded to its present capacity of 24,000. From this theatre, which has a row of seats 100 feet (30 metres) above the orchestra, St. Paul preached to the Ephesians, imploring them to give up their worship of Artemis and embrace the Christian faith. Your archaeological tour continues with a visit to the Temple of Hadrian, built in the 2nd century A.D. in the name of the Emperor. Ephesus Archaeological Museum After Ephesus, a visit is made to the Ephesus Archaeological Museum, which showcases two wonderful statues of Artemis and 25,000 artefacts unearthed in this historic ancient city. Basilica of St. John Your last stop is at the nearby Basilica of St. John, one of the most significant religious monuments of its time. Built in the 6th century to replace the small basilica at the site of St. John's Tomb, the church signifies a major move from the ancient Roman cults to Christianity. Much of the basilica was constructed using materials from the famous Temple of Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Following your tour of Ephesus and surrounding area, proceed for a relaxing lunch served at one of the best 5 star hotels in Kusadasi. At the end of the lunch, re-board your coach for the return drive to Kusadasi. Upon your arrival, you may opt to return directly to the ship or remain in town at your leisure. Full participation requires being in good physical condition and may involve inclines, steps, uneven surfaces, and/or extended periods of standing. A meal is included in the excursion. Discover one of the world's most beautiful ancient cities during this scenic and memorable half-day excursion to Ephesus. Ephesus Depart the port for the scenic drive to the spectacular ancient city of Ephesus, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of the greatest outdoor museums in Turkey and perhaps in the world. Although now in ruins, it was originally founded by the Carian and Leleg native peoples. Magnificent vistas wait including Odeon Theatre, Hadrian Temple, the glorious Celsus Library façade, Terrace Houses and the Grand Amphitheatre. The Odeon Theatre had a seating capacity of about 1,500 seats. Built in 150 A.D., it was primarily used for small plays, concerts and official public ceremonies. The Hadrian Temple was dedicated in 118 AD to both Hadrian and to the goddess Artemis; it underwent reconstruction in the 4th century. This impressive Corinthian-style temple has beautiful reliefs on the porch. According to the belief of the Ephesians, the head of Medusa on the porch would protect the city from invaders and enemies. Terrace Houses Next, continue on to the recently-renovated Terrace Houses. They were inhabited by wealthy Ephesians, and are finely decorated with incredible mosaics and frescoes. The Terrace Houses were discovered in excavations carried out since the 1980s by a team of Austrian archaeologists. Along with those in Pompeii, they constitute some of the most vivid examples of Roman domestic architecture to survive today. Celsus Library The library is the best preserved structure of its kind. The inscription on the side of the building's front staircase states that the library was built by Julius, in his father's honor, after his death. His father, Celsus, was the Roman governor of Asia Minor early in the 2nd century AD; Celsus' sarcophagus is buried beneath the library. Great Theatre In the 1st century AD, it was successfully reconstructed and expanded by the Romans until it reached the seating capacity of 25,000. This is also the place where it is believed that St. Paul preached. It is believed to be the largest theatre in the ancient world. S.A.L.T. Liquid Gold: Discover Turkey’s Artisanal Olive Oil Scene
KUS-J

When you think of olive oil, you may not immediately think of Turkey, but it proudly ranks as the 5th largest producer in the world. Turkey even boasts an entire category of dishes, ‘zeytinyagli yemek’, specifically prepared with olive oil, a testament to its deep-rooted culinary significance. From references in The Iliad, set in ancient Troy, to claims of the first olive oil production in Urla, near Izmir, olive oil has shaped the country’s cuisine and culture for centuries. On this tour, we will immerse ourselves in Turkey’s olive oil scene with visits to an olive oil museum and a family-run organic farm specializing in artisanal olive oil, gourmet products, and sustainable farming, where we will have an olive oil tasting and a farm-to-table Turkish lunch. Your host for the day will be Mrs. Gursel Tonbul, a pioneer in organic farming and sustainability in Turkey. Oleatrium Olive and Olive Oil History Museum Your journey begins at the Oleatrium Museum, where history comes to life. The museum’s name, derived from Latin (“olea” for olive and “atrium” for courtyard), reflects the central role of olives in Mediterranean culture. Spanning 11 halls, the museum takes you on an immersive journey through centuries of olive oil production, from ancient techniques dating back to 500 BC to today’s modern extraction methods. A resident olive expert will guide you through the evolution of production, providing fascinating insights into how olive oil has shaped civilization. Olive Oil Tasting Experience Prepare your senses for a gourmet tasting session featuring Degirmen’s award-winning extra virgin olive oils, alongside house-made vinegars, including fruit-infused and aged balsamic varieties. You will learn to identify flavor profiles and discover how to best incorporate these rich flavors into Mediterranean cuisine. Explore the Organic Farm & Its Handmade Delicacies Stroll through the lush farm, where seasonal produce thrives, and experience firsthand the dedication to certified organic farming. Depending on the season, you may even get the chance to pick and taste fresh fruit straight from the trees. MEAL INCLUDED A meal is included in the excursion. Next, visit the production center, where skilled local artisans create a range of handmade products, including vinegars, dried fruits, olive oils, and fragrant soaps infused with olive oil. A Farm-to-Table Feast Conclude your experience with a farm-to-table lunch at Degirmen Restaurant, where the menu highlights the best of seasonal, locally sourced ingredients, many grown right on the farm.
